WSNC HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFF PREVIEW
The High School division gets things started Saturday at 9 am.

9 am

Fundamental Hoops vs. HP Big Ballerz

The first game features Fundamental Hoops and HP Big Ballerz. Corky Farley looks to get HPBB back on track, as they have dropped their last two heading into playoff action. Fundamental Hoops has been consistent down the stretch and are coming into their own as the second season begins. Marshall Dismuke will need to rely on defense, if he hopes to defend his 2008 title.

10 am Fastbreak vs Lady Knights

Fastbreak's tough regular season schedule has them battle tested. The Lady Knights will get a rematch of the July 19th loss at the hands of Fastbreak. The good news for the Lady Knights, they know they can play with one of the league's best teams. Fastbreak matched up well against the #1 seed T's Titans, but they will have to take care of the Lady Knights first before they can get a rematch.

11 am

TT's Titans vs Falcons

The #1 seed, T's Titans enter the playoffs undefeated and face the
8th seeded Falcons. The Falcons have improved a great deal over the summer including a couple of close losses. On July 19th, T's Titans were just too much for the younger Falcons. They look to rewrite the story this time around. As the only undefeated team among 23 in the WSNC, T's Titans has a lot to be proud of. In a much anticipated match up with Fastbreak, T's Titans came out on top, 46-41. Finishing second a year ago has these Titan's hungry to win a championship.

12 noon

Lady Tsunami vs California Blaze

The last few weeks have been tough for Lady Tsunami, however, there's no time like the present to get things going again. The talent is there, but teamwork is essential to advancing in the playoffs. The California Blaze finished the regular season strong and is definitely one to watch, as the playoffs begin on Saturday. Lady Tsunami and the California Blaze faced each other July 12th, with Lady Tsunami coming out on top, 33-24.

UCLA's Mariah Williams of the Show Stoppers, challenges T's Titans Brett Timmons (Long Beach State). The Show Stoppers prevailed, 50-48.

Williams' basket leads the Show Stoppers into '09 Playoffs

Threse Berner reminded her team in a late timeout "not to celebrate."
Berner understands what can happen when you let your guard down. Coming into Sunday, T's Titans needed both wins to solidify a playoff spot.
Walter Williams' Show Stoppers, also needed two wins on Sunday to guarantee a post season appearance. After tying the game with 7 seconds remaining, Berner's Titans looked headed for their second overtime game of the day. After getting the inbounds pass, Mariah Williams went through the T's Titans defensive to deliver the decisive blow. Williams tear drop lay up gave the Show Stoppers the win and moved the Show Stoppers up to 5th in the playoff hunt.

"We weren't afraid when they scored", said Williams. "We knew we had plenty of time and it just worked out for us. We needed both of these games and the team responded well". The Show Stoppers defeated T.E.A.M. '09 earlier in the day, 56-55. For T.E.A.M. '09, it was their 2nd loss in the last three games. Onye Ibekwe's squad easily defeated Team Excel on Saturday, as both teams were without any UCLA players. The Show Stoppers fell to the Eagles on Saturday, as well.

T's Titans also played twice on Sunday. Berner's team was able to hold off the Street Ballerz in overtime. For T's Titans it may be a waiting game to see how the playoff picture may turn out. The good news is T's Titans and Next Level are only 1 game behind in the race. However, they both will need to win and find help elsewhere from other teams.

Leon Henry had H & S ready to roll into the playoffs and then came Team Excel. All three have professional experience. The return of Darxia Morris and Jasmine Dixon was too much for Henry's team to overcome. H & S will meet a hungry opponent in T's Titans on Saturday and this game should be one of the days best. The addition of Aja Parham, Jessica Cheeks and Tanesha Johnson have instantly added stability this summer.

The defending champion LA Spirit have gotten things going after an earlier loss in the season to H & S. The Spirit is 4-1 against the top eight teams in the league and go into Sunday's action against the Coyotes.
Reginald Snell has gotten solid production from Candice Allen over the last weekend along with NAIA All American Morgan Bennett, who comes off the bench for LAS.

LA Fastbreak is 1-2 against teams in the playoff hunt. LA Fastbreak finishes the regular season against Next Level. Brittany Spears is back from Colorado and has been effective in her return. Ennisha Kyles and Christina Nzekwe provide a post presence that few teams can match up with. If the international pro Crystal Givens-Johnson returns to her old form, LA Fastbreak can find themselves in another championship game. Fastbreak has reached the championship game in '06, '07 and '08.

7.26.09
High School

There were four games decided by 6 points or less in an action filled Sunday in the South Gym. As the playoffs near, all 9 teams are still in the playoff hunt. Fastbreak and T's Titans are the only remaining unbeaten teams. That will change Sunday at 10 am, when the two faceoff at USC. Lady Tsunami is off to a great start, but has a very challenging weekend ahead of them.

Corky Farley has HP Big Ballerz at 3-3. But there is more to the story. HPBB defeated Lady Tsunami and lost to Fastbreak by 2 in an exciting finish. The Ballerz have lost games by at total of 2 and 3 points. A win will secure a good seed in the playoffs for this club.

Val Mancera and the Falcons struggled through a tough weekend with losses of 3 and 2 points, as well. The Falcons look to get back on track with a win against Westchester. The Falcons have no seniors on their '09 roster. The Lady C's have gone through some growing pains this summer, but that should be expected. Preston Pointer takes over and needs a few wins to secure a playoff spot.

Eight is Enough. Therese Berner has 6 seniors and 2 juniors on a team that advanced to the semi finals a year ago. The Titans are undefeated going into the final weekend.

Denise Woods has the Lady Knights poised for a playoff run. The road before the playoffs will provide good competition in the form of the California Blaze and T's Titans. A win over the Blaze will help bolster the team's playoff seeding.

The name has changed, yet the game is still consistent. The California Blaze are at .500 going into the final regular season weekend. Julian Anderson's club has 3 games in this, the final weekend. For Anderson's squad, it could mean the difference between 2nd and 8th place. This weekend is key for The Blaze.

Fundamental Hoops met up with it's league rival Fastbreak and was handed a tough defeat. The California Blaze, also defeated Marshall Dismuke's troops. Now with the playoffs on the horizon, the defending champion must get their house in order. Tsunami, the Lady C's and HP Big Ballerz await FH in the final weekend.
