T's Titans Completes Undefeated Summer!

High School
#1 T's Titans
48 vs. #2 Fastbreak 17

Therese Berner knows what can happen if your not prepared when opportunity knocks. So as her players went through pre game warm-ups, she reminded them to stay focused.

The Titans were ready.

The game started at a quick pace and didn't let up throughout. The Titans didn’t allow Fastbreak double figures in a quarter until the 4th. Taft’s
Rmanii Haynes and Montclair’s Chantel Dooley finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Fastbreak, who had an outstanding summer, couldn’t get things going against the quick and athletic ladies of T’s Titans.

For T’s Titans, it was Therese Berner’s first WSNC Championship.

College/Open
#1 LA Spirit
31 vs. #2 LA Fastbreak 44

Louie Nelson entered the ’09 Championship game looking for his 2nd championship, his last Championship was in 2004. Nelson took full advantage of
Crystal Givens-Johnson international experience. The former Long Beach State
standout was a force to be reckoned with in the middle. Johnson and
Zipporah Chase proved to be too much for the defending champions. Johnson finished with a game high 16 to go with Chase’s 14.

The LA Spirit never got on track in the scoring column. Former UCLA Bruin Tierra Henderson led her team with 10 points. Henderson made back to back lay-ups’ late in the 2nd half to cut the Fastbreak lead to 20-16. Charlee Underwood’s (Cal State Fullerton) jumper helped The Spirit go on an 8-0 run, however, they would get no closer.

Both teams finish the summer at 10-2.

High School - 1 pm
#1 T's Titans vs. #2 Fastbreak

In the High School division, T's Titans will get another chance to earn it's 1st WSNC Championship. Last season
Therese Berner led her troops to the finals, only to come up just short in the title game.
McKinsey Hadley brings in Fastbreak, who defeated it's old nemesis Fundamental Hoops in the semi finals. Fastbreak is a team that plays well together, as 7 members of the team attend Serra High School.

T's Titans defeated Fundamental Hoops in an earlier match up.

College/Open - 2 pm
#1 LA Spirit  vs. #2 LA Fastbreak

Since 2004, every WSNC Championship game has featured either the LA Spirit or LA Fastbreak. The two teams have matched up in the '06 and '08 Championship game, with The Spirit taking both titles.
Louie Nelson brings #2 LA Fastbreak into it's 4th consecutive Championship game. LA Fastbreak won it all in 2004. Nelson's team brings a 9-2 record into the game.
Reginald Snell looks to lead the #1 LA Spirit to the 1st back to back league title since 2000-01. In the last five seasons, no other team has won more games. The Spirit enter the final game of the summer at 10-1.

Rod implemented and created the first NCAA sanctioned college basketball summer league in Los Angeles, better known as the Say No Classic. In Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, the Say No Classic has been in operation for over thirty years. Young men have gone from being high school 'phenoms', to college standouts, to professional basketball players in the NBA and overseas. Along with Rhonda Windham, Rod was instrumental in starting the Women’s Say No Classic at USC.

In 2009, the Men’s Say No Classic Basketball Summer League has been renamed the Rod Smith Memorial SNC Summer League. Both league’s are honoring Rod by wearing his initials “RS” on their
jerseys.
