Too Close To Call

Saturday's first game was worth the 9 a.m. start time. The day started with a 3 way tie for 1st place. A rematch of the 2010 Championship brought the LA Spirit and PHB to the floor. PHB came out strong and opened up a 14 point lead over the defending champions. PHB led at the half 28-22. The Spirit turned up the heat in 2nd half with strong defensive pressure. The Spirit held on for a 51-46 win. USC's Cassie Harberts led the way 16, 10 coming in the 2nd half. Alexyz Vaioletama added SAC's Danielle Peacon finished with 11.

PHB came back strong in the 2nd game handing the highly T.E.A.M 2k11, it's 1st loss of the summer. Onye Ibekwe's squad was down 7 at the half and were never able to get it going against one of the league's better teams. Kayla Valentine led PHB with 12 points. Danielle Peacon finished with 10 points. For T.E.A.M. 2k11, Ify Ibekwe tossed in 17, including 5 3-pointers.

LA Fastbreak continues to roll as they picked up wins 6, 7 and 8 this weekend.
Louie Nelson will face his old nemesis the LA Spirit in Saturday's 10 am game (7/30). A win for Fastbreak would mean a #1 seed heading into Sunday's playoffs. For the Spirit they are two wins away from their 3rd undefeated regular season. They have currently won 19 straight games over the last 2 summers.

Raymond Shepard is doing double duty and has a chance to place two teams in the playoffs. Shepard was asked to coach an extra team by this season. The results has been outstanding. Both the Titans and The Sleepers have a chance for the post season.

#Winning has been on a roller coaster ride this summer. Up and down, has been the mantra for this team. They have played one of the tougher schedules in the league. Losses to the LA Spirit, PHB and Team 2k11 have had Tammy Story-Wilkins trying to hold the ship together. A former Trojan herself, Story-Wilkins can rely on Briana Gilbreath and Ariya Crooks-Williams to carry the load.

Division II basketball is alive and well in the WSNC. Cal State LA has two entries and the Gold team is close to securing a playoff ticket. To guarantee a ticket to Showdown Sunday they need to beat the Long Beach Pandas. The ladies from Long Beach City have been playing better as of late and may cause problems for CSLA. The Black team is safely in.
